Telling Your Story: Fundraising with Heart
Now that you’ve created your Support-A-Walk fundraising page, you may be wondering, “How do I get people to donate?” The answer is YOU. Personalizing your page and telling your story is what is going to inspire your friends, family, and colleagues to donate to your fundraiser.
Don’t know where to start? Here are a few tips:
Determine Your Why
Why are you choosing to fundraise on behalf of Support Connection? Maybe you’ve received help from our counselors or perhaps you are using your fundraiser to raise awareness. Once you’ve determined your why, share it on your online fundraising page. This will allow donors to connect to you and your story and that heart to heart connection is what is going to get them to donate!
Share Pictures
Sharing pictures on your online fundraising page makes it more interesting and attractive to donors. If you are fundraising as part of a Team, include pictures of your Team. Or if you are fundraising on behalf of a family member or friend, share a picture of them. Donors enjoy seeing pictures, it helps them feel more connected to the person behind the screen.
Personalize Your Gratitude
When someone donates to your page, make showing your gratitude personal. Give them a call and let them know how much their donation means to you or mail them a hearfelt thank you note! This will leave your donors feeling good about the donation they made. They may be inspired to donate to your fundraising endeavors again in the future or encourage their friends and family members to donate to your page!

The Next Step: Making the Ask
You’ve created your page, you’ve told your story, and now it is time to reach out and ask for support from your social circle. You might start out thinking that your circle is small, but it’s a good idea to sit down and create a list of everyone you know: family, friends, neighbors, colleagues. By the time you’re finished, you will probably find that you actually know more people than you thought you did!
Now that you know who you are going to reach out to, it’s time to make the ask. Asking for contributions can feel intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be!
Speak from the Heart
Express to your prospective donors why a contribution to your Support-A-Walk fundraiser would mean so much to you. Let them know that you appreciate any contribution that you receive, no matter the amount.
Educate
Let your prospective donors know what that their contribution is helping Support Connection provide free counseling and resources to anyone impacted by breast, ovarian, or other gynecological cancers. Include a link to our website supportconnection.org so that they can learn more.
Make it Easy
Stress that making a donation to your page is a quick, easy, and secure process. Include a direct link to your fundraising page in the body of your email, text message, or social media post.
Get Good at Gratitude
Keep track of who makes a donation to your fundraiser and send them a personalized thank you. This will show how appreciative you are of their donation and if you plan to fundraise again for next year’s Support-A-Walk, chances are donors that you show direct appreciation to will donate again!
