2015 Support-A-Walk Team Spirit Winners

Support Connection, Inc. is pleased to announce the winners of their 2015 Team Spirit Awards. The awards were presented in conjunction with the 21st Annual Support-A-Walk for Breast and Ovarian Cancer, which took place on October 4, 2015 at FDR Park, Route 202, Yorktown Heights, NY.

The Team Spirit Awards encouraged friends, family members, co-workers and neighbors to “team up” for the Support-A-Walk. The Support-A-Walk is held to bring attention to the needs of people affected by breast and ovarian cancer, and to raise funds for Support Connection’s free support services for those living with these diseases.

For the “Most Creative Team Banner” award, Teams were invited to enter their handmade banner on the morning of the Walk. The following week, photos of the entries were reviewed by the contest judges: Cathy Montaldo, Support Connection’s Support-A-Walk Coordinator; Kacey Morabito Grean of 100.7 WHUD Radio’s Mike and Kacey in the Morning and Bill Powers of PowersPR Video, Support-A-Walk Honorary Chairpersons.

The winning Team Banner was made by Daisy Troop 10077, a group of 13 girls who are all first graders at Beekman Elementary School in Poughquag, NY. Troop Leader Carrie Tropea of Hopewell Junction, NY has participated in the Support-A-Walk for many years with her family, walking in memory of her mother Caroline Puppo, who died of breast cancer. This year, she and fellow Troop Leaders Erin Carmen and Cherilyn McCann-Lee helped their Scouts create a banner replete with hand-drawn designs. The girls then gathered at the Support-A-Walk and walked together.

Together, along with friends and supporters, they walk in memory of their mom and wife Gayle, who died of ovarian cancer.
