Fundraising: How to Ask for Donations

ANNUAL SUPPORT-A-WALK ~ SUNDAY, OCTOBER 1, 2023

Tips for Online Fundraisers

Have you asked people to donate yet? It’s never too early to start asking for donations. We rely on these donations year-round to sustain our free services.
Here are a few tips on “How to Ask for Donations”:

Ask everyone you know

Use your personal email account to send a message to everyone in your address book asking them to donate. Remember to include the URL to your fundraising page. Here’s a sample email you can use.

Explain why you care

One woman wrote this on her fundraising page to explain her personal connection to our cause:

“I fundraise for Support Connection because they have provided me with invaluable emotional and educational support, both in my own battle with ovarian cancer and during my sister’s six-year battle with breast cancer. The depth and wealth of information and the understanding that Support Connection provides me cannot be measured.

Maybe you or someone you know has been affected by breast, ovarian cancer, or any gynecological cancer. Maybe you’ve volunteered for us. Maybe you just want to make a difference in the lives of the people we help. Share your commitment and your passion with family, friends, and colleagues! Inspire them to make a difference with you!

Set a goal

Choose a fundraising goal. Post it on your fundraising page. Then, ask people to help you meet it!

Set a goal you think you can reach. As you get close, update friends and family. Ask them to help you reach or surpass it! You can change your goal later on as well.

Encourage donations of all amounts

One young lady raised $500 in one week by telling her friends: “If everyone could donate $5, it would make a huge difference.” She compared a $5 donation to the cost of a sandwich.

PS: Plenty of people donated more than $5!

Frequently Asked Questions

I started a fundraising page but now I can’t find it.

Login in to your Network For Good account here. Once you’re logged in, click “My Account” at the top of the page. Your fundraising page will be displayed in your account.

Or, you can go to our 2023 Walk fundraising home page then scroll down to the bottom to view all the people raising funds for our Walk. Names will be listed alphabetically.

I don’t know what a “URL” is.

The URL is the address at the top of your fundraising page. (It starts with https://supportconnection.networkforgood.com/projects…) Include this URL in your emails. When the recipient clicks on it, your page will open up for them.

What can I do to increase my contribution?

Take advantage of Matching Gifts. Many companies will match contributions made by their employees and even their spouses. This can double or even triple your donation! Ask your employer if they have a Matching Gift program. Support Connection is a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit. Our EIN/tax ID number is 13-3900612.
