Five New Members Appointed to Board of Directors

Support Connection welcomes five new Board Members to support and further the impact of its mission. Each of these individuals brings valuable professional and personal experience to the table.

Ida Doctor

Ida Doctor was drawn to Support Connection’s mission based on her personal experience as a breast and ovarian cancer survivor. She was a Support Connection volunteer prior to joining the Board. Ida brings with her a wealth of knowledge and valuable perspective in the medical field, both as an RN and as a former Sr. Director of Risk Management at Westchester Medical Center and a Consultant to several area hospitals. She is currently the Associate Director of Risk Management at Jacobi Medical Center in Bronx, NY.

Ida has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Cornell University and a Master’s in Nursing Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. She is also on the Board of the Children’s Dream Foundation. Ida and her husband raised their two grown daughters in Tarrytown, where Ida still resides.

Marcie Kaplan

Marcie Kaplan has been involved with Support Connection for more than twenty years. She is a staunch advocate of the mission, grateful for the support a family member received during her cancer journey. She is committed to giving back with participation in Support-A-Walks as well as sharing information about Support Connection services within her community and workplace. Marcie’s desire to support this important cause as a helping hand in any way that she can led her to dedicate herself to the Board of Directors.

Marcie’s years of experience in event marketing, fundraising, and photography will be a great asset to Support Connection’s Board of Directors. With her Bachelor’s degree in Marketing Administration as a foundation, Marcie has developed a successful career as a Marketing Client Strategist for Recruitics.

Barbara Kerasiotes

As the daughter of a cancer survivor, Barbara Kerasiotes holds Support Connection’s mission very close to her heart. She has been a longtime supporter of the organization and has dedicated a lifetime of service to her community.

Barbara has Bachelor’s degrees in both Business Administration and English Literature as well as a Master’s in Counseling degree and a second Master’s degree in School Administration. Barbara’s 30 years of school counseling experience, coupled with her extensive Board experience in the not-for-profit and for-profit sectors, brings great insight to the Support Connection Board. Barbara shared, “Having worked in a helping profession for more than thirty years, the desire to help is central to who I am, but more specifically I have a desire be able to help in continuing Support Connection’s mission – a mission which I hold to be a sacred one.”

Marge O’Brien

Marge O’Brien’s family history with breast cancer drew her to Support Connection’s mission. Having shared a breast cancer journey with one sister who lost her courageous battle and another sister who is now cancer-free, Marge knows all too well how devastating a cancer diagnosis is for the person diagnosed and the challenge for loved ones as well. “Once I met the caring counselors, staff, and other volunteers, I knew this was the right organization for me to give my time to,” Marge shared, explaining how diving in as a Support Connection volunteer committee member in 2012 was just the beginning and led her to the organization’s Board of Directors.

Marge has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Iona College. After 33 years in the Securities field, Marge O’Brien retired as Managing Director and Head of the Regulatory Supervision Team at Deutsche Bank Securities. Marge and her husband Ronan, who is also a Support Connection volunteer, reside in Cortlandt Manor, where they raised their two grown children.

Nancy Stingone

As the Executive Director of the Yorktown Chamber of Commerce for 10 years, Nancy Stingone had a front row seat to Support Connection’s growth and was always at the ready to lend a hand as a volunteer and a fundraiser. She is excited to now expand this role and bring her passion for the organization’s success and her love of community engagement to the Support Connection Board.

Nancy is the owner of Unique Design Creations, a business and professional gifting company. Her professional experience and personal skill set, both of which embrace the power of acknowledgment, will be a great asset to the organization’s efforts to expand awareness of its important work as well as to increase the impact of its outreach.

The Support Connection Board of Directors  is a diverse group of dedicated volunteers who devote their time and talents to helping the organization fulfill its mission. The Board includes people whose lives have been impacted by cancer, business leaders, and members of the community. In addition to providing governance for the organization, the Board works to raise funds and pursue resources to enhance and sustain Support Connection’s programs and services.
