Andrea Karl, one of Support Connection’s Peer Counselors, has retired as of Friday, August 20, 2021. For 16 years, Andrea provided help and hope to so many people impacted by breast, ovarian and gynecological cancer. Her compassion, empathy and guidance made a difference in thousands of lives.
Since it is impossible for her to personally reach out to each person, Andrea has asked us to share this message with you: “I wish I had the time to speak with many more of you before leaving. I want everyone to know how inspiring you have all been to me over the years. I am humbled and honored to have shared the Amazing Grace of every person I spoke with.”
Andrea herself is the definition of Amazing Grace. She has been endlessly dedicated to our mission and to meeting the needs of those coping with cancer. Her incredible kindness and caring…. her uplifting and giving spirit…. her tremendous insight and skill… made a huge difference to so many people.
Andrea is a gift to Support Connection and the people blessed to know her. After utilizing our free support services, Andrea decided to give back by volunteering. It was soon evident that Andrea wanted other people to experience the kindness, support and resources that she received from Support Connection. When we expanded our staff, we asked Andrea to be a Peer Counselor. She was a natural fit.
In her 16 years as a Peer Counselor, Andrea gave all of herself. Every person who reached out received her undivided attention. She helped people find strength they didn’t even know they had. Andrea has also played an integral role in the many programs and services Support Connection offers. Our support groups are especially close to her heart. Having benefited from a support group herself early in her cancer journey, Andrea developed a never-ending love for the magic that happens in support group meetings. She was inspired to write about it in this blog post.
Simply put, Andrea is one in a million. We will all miss her immensely, but we also know that the positive impact she had on the people she helped will continue on for many years to come.
Andrea, and all of us at Support Connection, want to remind everyone that if you or anyone you know is in need of support while dealing with breast, ovarian or gynecological cancer, our Peer Counselors Robin Perlmutter and Marlene Stager are only a phone call away (800-532-4290). You can also reach a Peer Counselor by email at this link.

(You can also send your message in an email to email@example.com.) We’ll make sure Andrea receives them all.
